Mr Lyon has been involved in numerous unreported cases and cases which settled after various kinds of motions. He managed a very large portfolio of international trademarks for a major local company for about 20 years, which entailed many US and foreign trademark suits and opposition proceedings. He has initiated and defended numerous internet domain disputes against domestic and foreign entities. He successfully tried the first of many counterfeiting and trademark cases for Harley-Davidson; a trademark case for Prudential Insurance before a jury using survey evidence; in 2003 he was lead counsel in a patent case for an Oregon company and obtained Summary Judgment of Validity and Infringement which lead to a mediated settlement; and recently concluded successful Markman rulings in a computer software case in the Central District. He was lead counsel for a major Japanese auto manufacturer in the defense of the Kearns litigation involving eight electronics patents covering intermittent windshield wiper circuitry; resolved before trial on discovery misconduct. Co-chaired the Wanlass patent litigation against all manufacturers of AC motors; negotiating settlements totaling nearly $10 million.
